Surf events are officially back in full force all throughout the Philippines. Despite some setbacks brought about by the pandemic, some natural disasters, and financial struggles, many of our top surf towns have been adamant at bringing back the glory of surf competitions with the aim of highlighting their local, homegrown talents.

But more than bringing back the thrill of watching surfers dish it out on the waves, these local surf competitions also prove to be beneficial in more ways than one.

For one, it contributes to drawing in more tourists to a particular surf town, which helps highlight the local lifestyle and the community within that particular place.

Surf competitions also provide the platform for local surfers to harness, develop, and test their skills. For professional surfers looking to increase their rankings and perhaps, even make a bid for their Olympic dreams, these competitions help them in getting recognized and making a name for themselves within the national surf scene.

WSL QS 1000 in Siargao

These truly are exciting times because in addition to these local surf comps popping up, WSL has once and for all confirmed the largest international surf competition this October in Siargao.

Come October 15 to 21, Siargao will see the best of the best in the Philippines battle it out with some amazing international surfers in a pumping Cloud 9. What’s great about this international surf comp is that it will feature both men’s and women’s categories as well.

Not only does this event provide the chance for our local surfers to shine on a global stage, but it also opens doors for our highly skilled women surfers to show what they’ve got.
